When it comes to ensuring the safety of automobiles, the impetus is largely on the driver to practice safe driving habits and perform regular maintenance and repairs. However, in some cases, problems can also be caused by issues in the vehicle’s design and construction. Because of this, many automobile manufacturers perform a variety of leak testing procedures and work closely with leak testing services to check their products and prove their quality. Unfortunately, problems are sometimes missed: a number of automakers were forced to recall their products in 2014, often for problems with fuel systems, airbags and more. While the GM recall was the most controversial, several other companies have recently enacted similar measures. Below are the most recent recalls in the auto industry:

Nissan
On Tuesday, December 9, Nissan recalled 470,000 cars worldwide, including 133,000 in the United States due to concerns over fuel leaks. According to the company, an improperly installed fuel pressure sensor could cause a small amount of fuel to leak. Currently, there have been no fires, but Nissan is taking no chances: the recall affects 2012-2014 model Nissan Juke crossovers, 2012-13 Infiniti M56 sedans, 2014-15 Infiniti Q70 sedans, 2012-13 Infiniti QX56 luxury sport vehicles, and 2014-15 Infiniti QX80 SUVs.

Hyundai
Hyundai is currently recalling around 43,000 vehicles due to brake light problems. The decision reportedly came after the company was contacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which had received a number of complaints from drivers. The recall will affect 2009-11 Genesis sedans and 2011 Equus sedans.

Jaguar
Jaguar has announced that the occupant classification system in some of their vehicles may not work and is recalling almost 7,100 vehicles accordingly; the system is supposed to determine whether a child or small adult is seated in the front seat, who could be injured by the airbag in some accidents, and disable this protection if necessary. After tests revealed that system was improperly wired, the company recalled its 2014-15 F-type sports cars.

Porsche
After finding that the front hood latch on some of their models may fail, Porsche is recalling 1,400 vehicles. The recall affects 2014-15 Boxster, Cayman and 911 sports cars.

In most cases, recalls like these aren’t due to a lack of attention or even tests, like leak testing services. Instead, they are examples of human error which, in many of the cases above, was detected before it could cause serious problems. In most cases, these cars will be rewired or fixed and returned to the owner. But despite this fact, manufacturers should always make sure that they are doing everything in their power to avoid these costly, sometimes dangerous recalls.
