Employee retention rates are low, a trend that has been becoming more and more alarming to companies and various human resources recruiters and human resources consulting firms for quite some time now. As a matter of fact, that data that has been gathered on the subject more than backs this up, showing that the vast majority of human resources recruiters and other such professionals very much feel that employee retention is one of the top problems that is need of being looked into and rectified.
The numbers that have been gathered surrounding rates of employee retention back this up, showing that more than two and a half million employees left their jobs in the June of the year of 2015 alone, let alone at any other point throughout the year, for that matter. Unfortunately, this is a number that has only continued to climb, something that becomes particularly apparent when you realize that up to one fifth, if not more, of all recently hired employees all throughout the country will end up leaving their jobs before even just a mere two months has elapsed.
Unfortunately, there are a number of very real reasons that human resources recruiters and other such hiring professionals are failing to hire people who are in it for the long haul and will look to stay at one company for an extended period of time. After all, there are reasons that up to 60% of all millennials currently in the workforce are always on the lookout for the next best opportunity. The job hopping generation, as they are called often, are not to blame for this problem but are rather a symptom of a problem that has been becoming more and more pronounced over the course of the last few decades.
For one thing, levels of employee support are quite low in far too many places all throughout the country. In fact, only around two employees for every ten that were surveyed actually said that they felt adequately supported by those that were superior to them, such as a manager or supervisor. This can lead to any number of different problems, from lowered work performance to even dissatisfaction with the work place – and a greater likelihood that the employee in question will leave their job at the end of the day. And employees who do not feel that they are being encouraged to do their best possible work are certainly not likely to actually do the best work that they are capable of.
Fortunately, there are certainly steps that can be taken to rectify this problem. For one thing, it is easy to implement various employee recognition programs for work spaces all throughout the country. Such employee recognition programs can be largely beneficial for employees of all backgrounds and in more than 85% of all places that such programs have been implemented have been found to have a considerably positive result on overall employee happiness and satisfaction. For many people, the improvement of overall mood and spirit will actually be reflected well by overall work performance and levels of work output. Therefore, such employee recognition programs are key for many places of work all throughout the country in its entirety.
Of course, human resources recruiters also know that other factors play a role as well, just as these same human resources recruiters will espouse the overall importance of things like employee recognition programs. After all, human resources recruiters will likely be the first to speak about the importance of overall diversity in the workplace as well. The benefits of the diverse workplace are truly immense, both in terms of gender diversity as well as ethnic diversity. After all, gender diverse workplaces are able to outperform non gender diverse workplaces by as much as a full 15%. And ethnically diverse workplaces are actually now able to outperform non ethnically diverse workplaces by as much as a full 35%. Therefore, it is quite hugely clear that the diversity of the typical workplace is something that cannot be overlooked in regards to the overall success of that workplace as well, especially at the end of the day.
