How to Choose the Best Plastic Injection Molding Company

Micro injection molding

A custom plastic injection molding company cost-efficiently manufactures a variety of different plastic parts, which includes everything from combs to car interiors. This is only one reason that plastic injection molding is the most common means of manufacturing such parts.

Of course, it’s not often that a company needs injection molded plastics. You may need injection molded plastics if your company has designed a new product, your engineers have re-designed existing injection molded plastics projects, your business moves manufacturing close to home, or a number of other reasons. So when you’re in the market for injection molded plastics, how do you choose the best company for the job?

There are four things you’ve got to consider: lead time, quality, reputation, and price.

Lead Time.

If a company can’t meet deadlines, what good are they? Make sure that you’ve got a written timeline including action due dates, and review it with the company to make sure that they can meet it. Their production timeline is different than yours, as it includes their existing production schedule, ordering the materials, and the testing of custom colors. It’s important to make sure that your two schedules can match.

Quality.

Poorly made products aren’t only unattractive, they’re unstable. You can’t compromise quality for anything, as it could result in injuries and liability for your company. Injection molded plastics should be free of air bubbles and foreign materials. The best way to determine a company’s quality is to ask for samples of previous projects with your quote so that you can compare them to different vendors.

Reputation.

If the injection molded plastics company truly is worth your business, then they’ve been worth others’ business, too. Ask past customers about their projects, and how satisfied they were. This will allow you to find out if the company regularly meets deadlines, produces high quality products, and has good customer service.

Price.

This is often the bottom line for most companies, and a major concern. In order to properly compare your quotes, you need to provide identical specs to each vendor, and ask who owns the molds. If you do, that means you can switch injection molded plastics manufacturers to your next production run if you want without having to pay for new molds.

If you keep these four points in mind, you’ll be sure to find an injection molded plastic company worth your business. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
