My Personal iPhone 3GS Case

12 08 2009

There’s nothing worse than finally making that purchase you’ve contemplated for weeks and not have the accessories needed to protect your investment!  I recently sold a coworker on the iPhone 3GS case I personally use, the SwitchEasy CapsuleRebel.  I’d been sleeping on SwitchEasy mainly because I hadn’t heard of their products and hadn’t personally seen them in the Apple Store or other retailers that carry iPhone products.

SwitchEasy offers some of THE best iPhone cases that provide dual protection.  iLounge has even awarded the CapsuleRebel with an “A-, Highly Recommended” rating based on its reliable double layer of protection and additional accessories.  They’re available in simplified styles and  come in an array of colors.  I personally have the CapsuleRebel in white and LOVE it!  I’ve actually [unintentionally] experienced it’s level of protection by dropping my iPhone in a parking lot.  I squealed like a little pig, but was pleasantly relieved to find that my precious iPhone was unharmed!  Of the many features I love about the CapsuleRebel is that it protects the ENTIRE handset… Bezel, buttons, ports and all!

Primary among the CapsuelRebel’s protection is the “UltraFrame™hard protection system, a unique cover-all hard shell exo-skeleton frame made with Lexan® polycarbonate” protection (SwitchEasy).  The case also comes with the most accessories I’ve ever seen with an iPhone case, and trust me… I have several iPhone cases.  Each CapsuleRebel comes with:

  • (2) Two anti-static Screen Guards
  • One Microfiber Wipe
  • One Universal Dock Adapter
  • One Video Dock Stand
  • One Squeegee for your Screen Guard application
  • One Power Jack Connector Protector

If you want to feel secure knowing your iPhone will be unharmed when dropped, accidentally kicked, scraped against hard surfaces, etc.; then look into purchasing a SwitchEasy product.  Again, I’m reviewing from experience.  The only thing I’m sorry about is that I didn’t purchase one sooner!  Check out their complete line and purchase online at  SwitchEasy.com.  TOODLES!

Netflix to Stream to iPhone… Maybe?

4 08 2009

Netflix logoHow cool would it be to enjoy ‘Watch Instantly’ content from your Netflix’s queue directly from your iPhone, iPod Touch or Nintendo Wii?  I think it’d be beyond awesome as I obviously have an iPhone, but a Wii as well!  Multichannel News is reporting that a reliable industry executive has confirmed that Netflix is in the process of developing an iPhone app that’ll allow Netflix users to view ‘Watch Instantly’ content directly on these devices.  I’ve been a Netflix member on an off for about 5 years and have enjoyed the service.  I especially like the ‘Watch Instantly’ feature where I can watch content immediately without the need to wait on snail mail!

It’ll be interesting to see if this comes to fruition, but only time will tell.  Multichannel News did point out how the ability to view content on your iPhone and iPod Touch would probably require a WiFi connection; as AT&T has been verbal in not allowing content streaming over their 3G network.  I don’t blame them, as I don’t want my mobile service to suffer because someone is hell bent on watching WALL-E on their iPhone!  As usual, I’ll keep you posted of the probability of a dedicated Netflix app becoming a reality.  Until then, you’ll have to “watch instantly” from one of the other Netflix approved streaming devices… Ahhh, patience is a virtue! ;)

More Free iPhone Apps

4 08 2009

FreeAPPAlert offers notifications of recently reduced [to free] iPhone apps!

FreeAPPAlert offers links to newly free iPhone apps

Who doesn’t perk up when they hear the word “free”?  Especially the words “free iPhone apps”!  Yeah, I know free apps are already showcased in iTunes, but iTunes doesn’t have a dedicated section of iPhone apps that were just reduced to $0… I thought that’d peak your interest!  Anyhoo, I was tipped off to a website called freeappalert whose only purpose is to advertise iPhone apps that were previously paid apps.

The site provides lists of iPhone apps by date (the current date is most prominent), category and previous App Store price.  It also links to the app in iTunes (requires iTunes) and has screen images from the app that will display at a larger size once you hover over it with your mouse.  They also provide various ways to be alerted of new free apps by offering an RSS feed, email subscription, or you can become a friend on Facebook.  I found that one of the easiest ways for me to stay in the know is to follow them on Twitter.  That way I can receive their notifications as a “tweet”!

I personally haven’t found any apps that I want to install on my iPhone yet, but I’m not discounting their presence.  I’m going to keep them on my radar and [of course] publish a new blog post when I find that, “Oh so irresistible” iPhone app.  Check out their website and let me know if you found an app that you think deserves a mention.  I’ll try just about anything, especially if it’s FREE!

iPhone OS Update to 3.0.1 Available Now

31 07 2009

Some of you may have read reports a few days ago about an exploit in the iPhone SMS function that’ll allow hackers to take control of your handset through malicious texts received via SMS.  Apple was expected to release an update this weekend (August 1st), but decided to release the secure update a day early.  In order to plug the exploit, your iPhone’s OS must be updated via iTunes.

The download is of an updated iPhone OS (hence the upgrade from 3.0 to 3.0.1); which is a substantial file size of just under 298MB.  Screenshots of my update process have been included below.  All in all, it took me approximately 30 minutes from start to finish.  Your download times will vary depending on your internet connection and the time of day you begin the download.  For more information on the SMS exploit and Apple release, visit CNET.com.

They Like Me… They Really Like Me!

31 07 2009

How “great” is it that my blog’s first ever rating is an 8.3 out of 10? I think its pretty darn good if I do say so myself! ;) The blog directory, Blogged.com, has christened my blog with an 8.3 (great) rating based on the following:

“Editor reviews are provided by professional editors who evaluate a blog based on the following criteria: Frequency of Updates, Relevance of Content, Site Design, and Writing Style.” -Blogged.com

HerTechKnowledgy Blogged Rating

HerTechKnowledgy Blogged Rating

I’m very appreciative of this rating and already working on increasing it to a perfect 10! There are so many topics that I can research and publish posts about, but if it does not help anyone in any way; then it’s unnecessary. All I’ve ever wanted to do was fulfill my passion by turning it into something tangible — Something that can be used to empower others. A blog about technology and gadgets may not seem like an empowering tool to some, but it can help to educate others when they have decisions to make. I’m grateful for my God given talent and will work to ensure that they’re continually shared with others.

Thank you for the visits and encouragement! You all never know how much a kind word, comment, email, or text message inspires me to take it to another level. Be Blessed and please know that I welcome your feedback.

Smooches,

LaKeela XOXO
