UPDATE: Granted, the way she worded her response wasn’t representative of how I would have said it; but I knew what she meant and that’s what’s important!
I said I wasn’t going to contribute to this orchestrated media storm that’s currently amidst by posting an entry about the Miss USA Pageant, but I can’t help but to speak my peace.
I was once an avid reader of Perez’ entertainment blog and recently followed him on Twitter. However, this latest “fake” controversy has gotten on my last nerve. He acts like Ms. Carrie Prejean said all gays need to be tarred and feathered and sent to a remote deserted island. I mean… Really? Is this really a controversy when so many Americans feel the same way about same sex marriage?
Perez is on every talk show imaginable discussing how Miss USA represents America. Excuse me… She does not represent America! She’s not an elected official. She has no power. She doesn’t even have control over her life during the year of her reign. In what realm does she represent America other than on the pageant circuit? Our current President, Vice President, Secretary of State and her husband and also former President of the U.S. all believe marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman. Therefore, if you want to start a controversy; then start it where it matters and not with some over glorified pageant that has no influence over American culture or politics!
Perez claims she gave the most worst possible answer. When does answering what you believe clarify as the worst possible answer? Is it the most worst possible answer because she didn’t answer it the way you wanted? I mean, she’s no Miss South Carolina, but it seems to me she answered it pretty well; aside from the fact that she incorrectly stated citizens can choose between same sex or opposite marriage (it isn’t legal in all 50 states). She said what she felt and is now being deplored for it.
I have so many questions regarding why THIS was chosen as this week’s controversy, but I’ll first address why I think this is all orchestrated. First of all, this is a Donald Trump production… Nuff said! Secondly, what Carrie said in her answer is how MANY Americans feel. I can’t quantify “most” with a number, because I haven’t taken a poll, but citizens have proven to not be in overwhelming support of same sex marriage. Therefore, why is what she said a controversy? Well, I think it’s a ploy to garner more interest in the pageant that is a spectacle (look up the definition of pageant)! It was the easiest and most cost effective way to generate BUZZ, and you know what… It did!
This planned controversy is boarding on the edges of hipocracy and greed. It’s the most ingenious way to garner attention for a dying breed (pageants) and an agreement between the rich (Trump) and already famous (Perez) for more attention and notariety. Perez was a former publisist… Give me a break people IT’S FAKE! The heated discussion in itself isn’t fake, but the reaction to her conventional question is. She expressed how she felt about the topic, and frankly said what many of US Americans are thinking. Therefore, am I categorized with the foul names he called her during his numerous campaigns for not feeling the way Perez does? He’s simply demonstrating his intolerance for others for not believing what he believes. That in itself makes Perez a hypocrite and his actions towards Carrie’s response unjustifiable. Perez if you want to debate and have conversations about this subject; then you’re going about it the wrong way. People generally close their ears and minds when one resorts to name calling and disparaging others. Therefore, all of your fits have been in vain (other than the fact that everyone is talking about you AGAIN)!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
