To Save, Rent or Charge…? That is the question!

12 01 2009

Have you ever wanted anything so badly that you went to ridiculous extremes to obtain it?  Would you ever rent something to satisify that “need it now” urge or would you be patient and save enough money until you could purchase it out right?  These are questions I ask myself when I’m browsing Bag, Borrow or Steal or now Avelle!

Have I ever been desperate enough to rent a handbag?  No!  Have I thought of renting an expensive handbag?  Yes, but I just couldn’t bring myself to enter my card number in order to complete the sale!  All I could think about was what I could be doing with that money.  I’d kick myself once the transaction were completed for charging $325 for a 1 month rental of a high end designer handbag.  That and the fact that I’d be sporting an expensive handbag with no money in my wallet!  That in itself is an oxymoron!

I have a fixation with handbags… Especially expensive handbags!  I don’t know what it is!  I can see a handbag for the first time; know absolutely nothing about it and fall madly in love before realizing  it’s at least $600 – $1,000… NO LIE!  I’m naturally attracted to expensive things, but can’t readily afford them.  It’s sheer torture I tell you… TORTURE!  My sister once asked my husband what to get me for my birthday and his response was, “Everything she want’s is expensive!”

My sister wasn’t so much concerned about the price (albeit within reason).  She just wanted to get me something really nice for helping her out after she graduated from college.  I love, love, love my sister and had no qualms about providing for her until she had enough money saved from her new job to be self sufficient.  I have no problem helping someone who obviously is trying to help themselves.  So I can honestly understand her desire to get me something really nice!  No, seriously!

Anyhoo, she ended up getting me a really nice pair of Coach sneakers!  They’re so cute that I need to buy a couple more outfits to show them any justice!  Nevertheless, I like expensive things and think that I deserve a few of them every now and then!  I’m not going to go in debt trying to buy something I obviously can’t afford.  I did that when I was young and learned my lesson.  It’s just you’d like to splurge every now and again and get something really nice for yourself.  That brings me back to Bag, Borrow or Steal!  I’d like to treat myself, but it isn’t really a “treat” when you have to return it after an agreed upon timeframe!

I’d be so disappointed in myself if I rented a handbag for $100 – $400 per month; when I could have just saved 2 – 3 months rental fee and bought it out right!  It won’t matter if when I carry it; I only have 1/4 the amount of the bags worth in my wallet.  When I get what I want it’ll be paid for in full (cash only baby!) and I will have saved my money for it!  That’s the kind of treat that keeps on TREATING!  I’ll soon have [some of] what I want with a clear conscious that I didn’t just spend next month’s household bills on one purchase.  I’ll eventually get what I want; but I won’t sale my soul to get it.  I will not Bag, Borrow or Steal my dream bag!  I will own it outright and carry it proudly with my head held high, shoulders back and a walk that exudes confidence!  You’ll know when you see me coming a [s]mile away from the pure glow of satisfaction!  That’s something that can’t be “bagged, borrowed or stolen“… It’ll be pure, authentic and one of a kind pleasure!  Ahhhhh….

Inauguration Fashions

7 01 2009

Everyone’s wondering what Michelle Obama will wear to the numerous inaugural festivities she’ll be attending as First Lady next week week after next!  I’ve seen some beautiful sketches of gowns from all of the top design houses and wonder which ones (if any) she’ll actually pick.

This has got to be one of the most exciting times in all of their lives and picking attire for the festivities is just another facet of everything else they have to manage.  I’m ecstatic for the soon-to-be First Family and am sure that whatever the four of them don for the evening will only complement their natural beauty.  Below are some links to sketches that have been floating around the internet.  Click through and see which one’s you like the best.  Enjoy!

Keeping up with the Fashion Joneses

4 01 2009

Are you a Fashionista or Fashionisto and like to keep up with all of the top design house fashions and couture trends?  Well have I got something for you!  Style.com has posted a Who’s Who Designer Directory of all the top designers.

Now this directory isn’t for everybody!  For isntance, it doesn’t represent fashions currently hanging in my closet:  Mossimo; Ashley Stewart; Jones New York… You know; the “everyday woman” wardrobe!  What it does represent are those designers that the rich and more asstute image conscious individuals can afford.  Therefore, if you’re one of the few that can afford these designer garments; then take a look at the directory and make sure you’re not misrepresenting when you’re showing off for your friends!  Kiss, Kiss… Muah, Muah!

Snuggie… Really?

Mom, I can't move all wrapped up in this thing!

Mom, I can't move all wrapped up in this thing!

If you haven’t already noticed; I’m catching up on my Fashion posts for my blog.  Therefore, if you aren’t into all this fru fru frilly stuff; then skip ahead to something that interests you!  You won’t hurt my feelings as long as you’re still reading posts on my blog! ;o)

Okay, this isn’t “fashion” persae; but it is something you wear, or wrap yourself up in.  This is the Snuggie!  Many of you may have seen the commercial running on your local cable channels.  Either way, I can’t wait to see a man wearing this at a sporting event like they portray in the commercial.

Just picture it… You’re at a Titan’s game (sorry, but it’s my hometown team), and you’re sitting next to a man wearing a Snuggie.  Every time the Titans progress towards their end zone or score a touchdown; the crowd stands up to cheer.  However, the man with the Snuggie seems to be having issues, because his “wrap” keeps getting caught up in his folding seat.  Then when he finally gets free; you’re both standing on his blankie and he can’t quite stand up.  This begins to be too much trouble for him, so he gets frustrated, folds his arms in a big huff and swears he’ll just sit there until the game if over.  After all; it’s too cold for him to remove his wrap!

Now credit… It isn’t quite cold enough in Nashville to wear a Snuggie to LP Field; but you get the point!  I’d die laughing if I saw a man at a NFL game with a Snuggie on.  Now if it’s cold enough; I might wish I had one too, but I’m a girl!  That’s to be expected!

Not for the faint of heart!

Why travel to the Riviera when you can carry it on your arm!

If you have a couple thousand dollars lying around and are not affected by the country’s current Economic Armageddon; then run down to your local Louis Vuitton boutique and pick yourself up on of the newest handbags!

The new [Limited Edition] Galliera Riviera handbag is one of the latest designs to be released by the fashion house. It’s a cotton canvas bag with the standard LV leather piping; brass fixtures and gold LV plaque affixed to the front. The design pays homage to the French Riviera; where only the elite travel.

If I didn’t have a family to support; needed a place to live and our lifestyle didn’t require reliable transportation–I’d run down to my local boutique and demand the haughty taughty associates ring me up a couple and pay for them with my Black BofA VISA© Debit Card!

What… A girl can dream can’t she?
