This Gives Me Chills!

Oh how I love Jennifer Holliday and Hudson!  I grew up staring at my mother’s 12″ vinyl album cover from the cast recording of the Broadway play, Dreamgirls everyday.  I knew all of the songs and memorized each of the pictures inside the purple cardboard album cover.  Jennifer Holliday had ABSOLUTELY the best vocals and Sheryl Lee Ralph was the most beautiful.  Loretta Devine was the lesser known, but beautifully melodic [backup] singer who stood in the shadows; however, you always knew she was there.

That torch has now been passed to the exceptionally talented Jennifer Hudson, who is more than able to keep the flame burning.  That’s why it’s especially exciting for me to post this video.  The two of these powerhouse singers together is DYNAMITE!  I can’t wait for Jennifer’s tour to hit my city next month, so that I can react like the guy at the beginning of the video, and again at minute 3:32… Enjoy!

Morgan Freeman Integrates Prom… in 2009!

It’s beyond sad that we’re still talking about integration in 2009, but we are!  Oscar winner Morgan Freeman extended an offer to his home town high school in Charleston, MS back in 1997 to pay for an integrated prom, so that the high school students wouldn’t have to have 2 seperate dances!

The process leading up to and the decision to have the integrated dance has been documented [Prom Night in Mississippi] and is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this week.

It sucks beyond belief that there are still bigoted individuals in our country; but I’m also a “realist” and realize that not everyone is of the thought that we’re all the same [theoretically] and have many of the same goals in life.  It isn’t so much the thought that one group thinks they’re better than the other; but that they believe that there’s no way we can coexist and move towards our individual goals TOGETHER!

What would this country be like with one race?  I’m glad I don’t have to live in the answer of this question.  I just want to be me and learn from others who are who they are.  Get past yourself and allow the differences to reside where they may.  We were all created different for a reason!

Jill Scott Confirms Pregnancy!

My favorite artist/singer/actress (and sometime look-a-like) Jill Scott is pregnant!  I just received an “update” from her artist page on Facebook about the good news.  Rumors had been swirling on the internet since November and it seems that those rumors were true… She’s due in April!  I’m happy for she and her boyfriend fiance’, ‘Lil John Roberts!  For a view of the update posted on Facebook, see below or click here to be taken to the site.

JILLY FROM PHILLY IS EXPECTING!!!

Jill Scott is pregnant with her first child, our beloved soul singer and actress revealed to reporters at the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles on Friday.

Promoting her new HBO series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, based on the popular novels by Alexander McCall Smith, Scott said she discovered that she was pregnant just before leaving for Botswana where she filmed the show.

“The first trimester I spent in Botswana,” said the star, who is due April 25. “That was one of the biggest challenges of my life. First trimester! You’re sick every morning. It was seven hours time difference, the heat, the bugs, the 14 hour days.”

Still, the actress, who is engaged to drummer Lil’ John Roberts, says she’s glad she went through with the plans to film. “My doctors gave me a clean bill of health and said you can do this, so I did it.”

Scott, 36, is a three-time Grammy Award winner and star of the 2007 Tyler Perry film Why Did I Get Married?

Tori’s Going Back Home

Die hard 90210 fans can now breath a sigh of relief… Tori’s coming back!  Stories have been published since early summer of her return to the show; however, plans fell through and she didn’t return for the new series premier.  Well now her publisist has confirmed that Tori is in final negotiations with the show to return for a few episodes.

I wasn’t a fan of 90210 until the final 2 seasons, so I can’t say I grew up watching the show.  On the other hand, her reality show on Oxygen, Tori & Dean Inn Love has been one of my guilty pleasures.  I even bought and read her autobiography, “STori Telling”.  I think she’s funny and relatable… That’s just me!  Anyway, check the article out here and look for Tori this spring on the new 90210.
