Some of you may have read reports a few days ago about an exploit in the iPhone SMS function that’ll allow hackers to take control of your handset through malicious texts received via SMS. Apple was expected to release an update this weekend (August 1st), but decided to release the secure update a day early. In order to plug the exploit, your iPhone’s OS must be updated via iTunes.
The download is of an updated iPhone OS (hence the upgrade from 3.0 to 3.0.1); which is a substantial file size of just under 298MB. Screenshots of my update process have been included below. All in all, it took me approximately 30 minutes from start to finish. Your download times will vary depending on your internet connection and the time of day you begin the download.
