MobileMe iDisk now available for iPhone/iPod Touch (opens iTunes)

Apple (APPL, NASDAQ) unveiled the new iDisk App for iPhone/iPod Touch at this year’s WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference for the non-techies!) a few months ago, and now the free app is available for download from iTunes.

iDisk is an online file sharing system that’s compatible with Office, iWork 09,  PDF, video, photo, and various other file types.  Files can be shared in a public folder or password protected for specific users.  iDisk also has an expiration feature that allows you to set expiration dates for each of your files, so that they’re only available for a designated amount of time.  Each individual MobileMe account comes with 20GB of storage that is shared between your email and iDisk (user determined settings).  MobileMe is free to try for 60 days or as an annual subscription of $99/year ($149/year for the family pack).

I’m actually looking forward to using this app and the potential it offers for online access to all of my frequently used/referenced files.  Since the free space on the iPhone can’t be used as a jump drive (like previous generation iPods); it’ll virtually serve the same purpose.  That is unless you have a jailbroken iPhone; which in that case can be used to physically access files from your smartphone, but that’s another topic for another post!
