UPDATE: Granted, the way she worded her response wasn’t representative of how I would have said it; but I knew what she meant and that’s what’s important!
I said I wasn’t going to contribute to this orchestrated media storm that’s currently amidst by posting an entry about the Miss USA Pageant, but I can’t help but to speak my peace.
I was once an avid reader of Perez’ entertainment blog and recently followed him on Twitter. However, this latest “fake” controversy has gotten on my last nerve. He acts like Ms. Carrie Prejean said all gays need to be tarred and feathered and sent to a remote deserted island. I mean… Really? Is this really a controversy when so many Americans feel the same way about same sex marriage?
Perez is on every talk show imaginable discussing how Miss USA represents America. Excuse me… She does not represent America! She’s not an elected official. She has no power. She doesn’t even have control over her life during the year of her reign. In what realm does she represent America other than on the pageant circuit? Our current President, Vice President, Secretary of State and her husband and also former President of the U.S. all believe marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman. Therefore, if you want to start a controversy; then start it where it matters and not with some over glorified pageant that has no influence over American culture or politics!
Perez claims she gave the most worst possible answer. When does answering what you believe clarify as the worst possible answer? Is it the most worst possible answer because she didn’t answer it the way you wanted? I mean, she’s no Miss South Carolina, but it seems to me she answered it pretty well; aside from the fact that she incorrectly stated citizens can choose between same sex or opposite marriage (it isn’t legal in all 50 states). She said what she felt and is now being deplored for it.
I have so many questions regarding why THIS was chosen as this week’s controversy, but I’ll first address why I think this is all orchestrated. First of all, this is a Donald Trump production… Nuff said! Secondly, what Carrie said in her answer is how MANY Americans feel. I can’t quantify “most” with a number, because I haven’t taken a poll, but citizens have proven to not be in overwhelming support of same sex marriage. Therefore, why is what she said a controversy? Well, I think it’s a ploy to garner more interest in the pageant that is a spectacle (look up the definition of pageant)! It was the easiest and most cost effective way to generate BUZZ, and you know what… It did!
This planned controversy is boarding on the edges of hipocracy and greed. It’s the most ingenious way to garner attention for a dying breed (pageants) and an agreement between the rich (Trump) and already famous (Perez) for more attention and notariety. Perez was a former publisist… Give me a break people IT’S FAKE! The heated discussion in itself isn’t fake, but the reaction to her conventional question is. She expressed how she felt about the topic, and frankly said what many of US Americans are thinking. Therefore, am I categorized with the foul names he called her during his numerous campaigns for not feeling the way Perez does? He’s simply demonstrating his intolerance for others for not believing what he believes. That in itself makes Perez a hypocrite and his actions towards Carrie’s response unjustifiable. Perez if you want to debate and have conversations about this subject; then you’re going about it the wrong way. People generally close their ears and minds when one resorts to name calling and disparaging others. Therefore, all of your fits have been in vain (other than the fact that everyone is talking about you AGAIN)!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Well put. You do know your way around an argument. I agree that this issue should not be considered a controversy because as you stated it is no secret that many ppl in the US do not approve of same sex marriage. I believe it was/is an orchestrated attempt to undermine women in general & to specifically perpetuate the stereotype that white women are just stupid, especially ones w/ blond hair.
Peace

I appreciate your comments! It’s not justifiable for the pot to call the kettle black when you’re doing the same thing by degrading her and calling her out of her name because she expressed her views. It baffles me that the media is playing into this “controversy” and fanning the flames when there’s obviously no fire!
@L.Marie: I find your view on this interesting. If your little picture right there is any indication, you are a Black Woman. You, of all people, should see the similarities of this situation and many others in history.
175 years ago, blacks weren’t considered citizens. They weren’t allowed to marry white people, they weren’t allowed to vote, their rights were taken away. There were a lot of people in our country that believed that blacks should NEVER have the same rights as whites. What if they had won?
100 years ago, women were the possesion of the men that they were forced to marry.
While I agree that I don’t care what opinion she has, she’s very much entitled to it, and that’s fine, I do disagree that she thinks it’s ok that 52% of people can take away the rights of ANY minority.
History is repeating itself. In 100 years our great-grandchildren will see US as the bigots that we call slaveholders.
Thanks for the feedback Becca and I totally see your point! However, (and that’s a BIG however) the rights we as African Americans and women were prevented from expressing were natural rights granted to us based on Biblical theology. Some believe that being gay is a choice and some say that they were born that way– I can’t argue that they weren’t since I have no medical facts (or background) to argue their claim. The dominate religion in the U.S. is Christianity, and what is Christianity based on… The Bible. It always goes back to the Good Book! Many of us feel the way we do because of our religious beliefs, and until someone can find in the Bible where marriage shall be recognized as a union between anyone other than a man and a woman; then many opinions will remain as they are.
I’m not saying that we as Christians (or otherwise) are free of sin, but some things are just too far to the left for others to embrace. Trust me, I have my own sins to work on and am not trying to cast a stone without first looking at myself. Heck, if that’s what floats your boat; then sail on! I don’t have a heaven or a hell to send anyone to, but I believe what I believe and that isn’t going to change over night. The way this has been handled is inappropriate and wreaks of a publicity stunt. Do we need to discuss this? Most definitely, but lets keep an open mind as to the feelings of others and respect their beliefs. That’s my problem with Perez’ position in the whole thing.
I agree with this blog, and that is why Im choosing to boycott Perez Hiltons site. I used to read it too, but now I see him for what he really is. A hypocrite and a bully.
I agree MJ! I’ve since removed all links and references to his site and haven’t been on there myself since I posted this entry! It’s not like he’s going to miss me (he gets millions if hits), but it’s the principle of the matter!
Thanks for the comment!
