Those that know me know that I’m a consumate INTERNET/RESEARCH/GADGET junkie, and this is another one of those instances where others can [yet again] benefit from my findings! ☺
If you have an iPhone (like me ☺) and have not added a speed dial application; then you need to read this. As you all know, you have to complete 3 steps to dial a frequently used phone number. Unlike the BlackBerry (of which I’m also an avid user); you can’t assign a speed dial number for one-touch dialing to any of your contacts. Well here are the steps to save a frequently dialed number to your Home screen on the iPhone:
1. Open your Safari browser
2. In the address bar, enter the 10 digit phone number.tel.qlnk.net (i.e. 9015551212.tel.qlnk.net)
3. Tap Go
4. Tap Cancel
5. Tap the + symbol
6. Select Add to Home Screen
7. Enter the name/lable for the phone number
8. Tap Add
The green phone icon will now show up in the next available empty space on one of your Home screens!
When you tap the symbol (to call this number); your Safari browser will open and allow you to either Cancel or Call the number. When you tap Call; your iPhone will launch the phone application and dial the number just as if you’d done it yourself.
What you’re essentially doing is adding a Safari Bookmark to your Home screen that allows you to make phone calls. It’s not exactly “one tap” dialing, but its FREE and QUICK access to those most dialed & important contacts.
Enjoy! ☺
